As a huge David Wright fan it is tough for me to say it but it is now time for us fans to start to embrace Carlos Beltran for he is our true MVP. David Wright where have you gone?
It is not only because Beltran belted (pun intended) a 2 run walk off bomb off Cardinals closerJason Isringhausen but because he has been doing it all year. He has had his problems at home but he seems to be getting more comfortable at home and is coming up in the big situations. So Met fans we need to embrace Carlos Beltran with the MVP MVP MVP chants because he truly deserves it.
This does not mean I am not a DWright fan anymore but a blind man can tell that he is not himself lately. I do not know if it is the curse of the home run derby or he is having trouble seeing the ball or it is just plain bad luck. Sometimes the ball gets hit hard but just not in the right place. Where is the HR production you ask? Well I believe David isn't a true HR hitter. I think he will be a 30 HR max guy a year and more of the avg. hitter.
With all this said Carlos Beltran can do it all its time for showing this man the love.

Have We All Come Back From The Ledge

In various posts on other blogs I have said how every team goes into a bad slide here and there. So we had a rough go of it for the first three games in Philly and it just seemed like Fans have been losing their cool and saying that the Mets aren't the team we thought it was. Well in a sense you are right the team has changed since the beginning of the season but we need not forget that the outfield we have right now will not be the one that is there in October. We are going to October don't forget that. The magic number is at 30 and although there is some time left to play I cannot see any team catching us. The only team that could catch us is the Cardinals for the best record in the league and even that is a stretch.
So lets not continue to think that Michael Tucker and Ricky Ledee will be our starting outfielders. I am pretty sure that Shawn Green or Preston Wilson will be in a Met uniform before August is out. That person will share duties for the rest of the season with Lastings Milledge. Keep in mind that Lastings is a young player and something could very well click with him and he catch a little bit of a hot streak going down the final stretch of the season. The only issue I have with Milledge is not with him but with Willie Randolph. I think Willie is a great manager but I hate the way he handles young players. He needs to move Lastings up to the 7th spot. It is tough for a young player to develop their hitting in the major leagues when he is not seeing any decent pitches to hit which is the case with Milledge batting 8th and having the pitcher behind him.
So my fellow Met fans...I know we all are elated with the win in Philadelphia yesterday salvaging the final game of the series but if the Mets go on another 3 game slide it is not the end of the world or the end of the baseball season. There is always October to look forward to and trust me it will be one we never forget.
With all this said I cannot wait to go relive the '86 season on Saturday with my family and girlfriend. I hope it will bring back so many memories and the reception the team gets shows the '06 Mets what could be years down the road when they pull the WS out this year.

Everyone, Cliff needs some lovin

Cliff Floyd has been aching ever since he became a New York Met. To me this man has been a guy who gives his all when hurt and when the team had nothing to play for a few years back he was the lone reason to go to games. He gave everything he had to keep this team interesting. He is symbolic to the hard working gritty New Yorkers who have to tough it out in this dog eat dog world. Cliff's achilles tendon is now acting up. Their are hints that he might retire after this year.

For someone who has given us his all I feel Cliff is underappreciated by us fans. He is someone who has given us his all as a Met and gets no acknowledgement. We all say we love him and all of that but when you go to a game he doesn't get the ovations he deserves. Yes he is not having the season he had last year but he has been a part of this team through tough times and almost was going to retire a few years ago but decided to stick it out and he is still a big part to this team.

So I ask Met Fans next time Cliff is in the line-up and his name is announced give him what he deserves scream and clap and make some noise for the guy. Show him that we love and appreciate him and the heart he shows.

The Future

I have been trying to explain to people who aren't so familiar with Baseball business about the deal with arbitration and free agency in regards to Jose Reyes and David Wright. I have been explaining how Jose will get his deal first and then more then likely David will get his deal next year during the season. Why did I say this? Because it is baseball tradition to wait for a players to just about reach their arbitration eligibility then offer them a deal. It's nice to see that the Met's are thinking outside of the Box and did not mess around with David and his contract. They have sured up their left side of the infield with signing both Jose and David this week. When I heard the news about Jose I was happy for him and when I saw his interview I got excited. Reyes is a charming guy who has fire and can lead this team to great things. On my way to the game on Sunday I heard the news that David was signed and I became estatic.
Bleeding blue and orange from the day I was born in 1982 the Mets didn't seem to do a whole hell of a lot right with the exception of getting Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter on the team. After that '88 they dismantled the team and were looking up at the elite which a New York team should not be doing. The Mets are now the elite despite what the naysayyer talk about being in a weak NL and dominating. They are becoming trendsetters making it known that they are here to stay and the future has started this week with these signings. With the monster breakout of Carlos Beltran, Jose and David this week have joined him in being a sure part of our future with their contracts.

Who Do I Root For?

I like the rest of the baseball world am in a Baseball Fantasy League. Now this week I play my buddy Radie from MetsWit.blogspot.com. I tried hard to get some of my beloved Mets on my team but unfortunately at the proper draft points that I was planning on taking them they all had been picked up.
Radie who I believe had an ideal drafting position as the 12th and last pick was able to pick 2 players in a row. Second round I have my sights set on D. Wright (Beltran and Delgado are already picked up) but Radie has the double pick at the end of the first and takes DWright. Imagine my dilemma now that I watching the Mets game and DWright my favorite player on the team is struggling but yet it helps me. I hate rooting against the Mets and by no means am I wishing Wright do badly but I have to say it is kind of weird when my family hears me FUCK because it is his third time striking out and then a little bit of a YEAH another strike out. I think they have made some calls to Creedmore psychiatric hospital to see if they have any room for me.
The same goes for when the Mets play someone who is on my team I get mad that my player did well because he hurts the Mets but on the inside I am saying ok thats X number of total bases or X number of strikeouts. I think this is the way to go. Keep it on the inside. I am an emotional guy and the Mets are a big part of it. I am not happy if they lose and its tough to talk to me for sometime after a bad loss. Luckily we have been winning mostly this year or I think my girlfriend would have broken up with me by now.

Conclusion: Fantasy is just a game. If one of your fantasy players is against your team keep your joy on the inside. You don't want to be at Shea when the Mets are playing the Marlins and cheer when someone like Hanley Ramirez(who I have since traded away for John Smoltz to Radie) hits a HR and your the only moron in a Mets uniform cheering. The security will think you are wasted and may try to kick you out.

LETS GO METS

Playoff Tickets

Now that it looks like a sure thing that our beloved Mets will be making the playoffs I have people who are aware that I am a season plan holder coming out of the woodworks asking how many playoff tickets I have the opportunity to buy because all of a sudden they are interested. As a non cable subscriber in the early years I could only see the Amazins on the weekends when they were on WWOR Ch9 in NY. Now they play on WPIX 11. Now I have had cable for a long time and haven't missed many Mets Games. I have noticed as cable has grown the games on local TV has become less and less. In speaking with the Mail guy at work he mentioned how happy he is because he will be able to see all 3 games this weekend because they are all going to be on regular TV. Friday and Sunday on Ch11 WPIX and Sat Ch. 5 FOX National Game. Now first it strikes me as odd that he does not have cable but hey some people have different priorities then I do. But being in Advertising and being fascinated with the TV business I am wondering how often does this actually happen? With the growth of Cable you are lucky to get 2 games a weekend on local TV. All I can say is thank god for Cable. But sometimes Cable isn't enough. We all remember the blackout of MSG and FSNY by Cablevision on the Time Warner system. It was not to long ago that I was once like the Mail Room Guy who was forced to live for Howie and Gary's call on the radio(I still listen to the radio when it is not on SNY, I Hate national broadcasters especially those robots on ESPN) to find out whats going on. So to those Met fans without Cable enjoy this weekend it is going to be a great preview of things to come and hopefully it will teach you that yes The METS should be a priority which puts Cable up first on the budget.

LETS GO METS

David Wright...It's Time To Wake Up

In reading the Post today I took a look at the Mets Notes that they have everyday in the paper. The thing that caught my attention was David Wright's stats vs. Horacio Ramirez. He is 7-10 with 4 HRS, 7-7 with a walk against Ramirez in his last 8 plate appearances.
WOW!!!!!
I am drooling to watch this game tonight to see the type of game he has. It should be a good one.

LETS GO METS

B-Palm Smash

OK OK Some of you have seen the posting on my boy/coworker's blog (MetsWit) about me. Now he is infact partially the reason this blog is up and running because he provided the html codes to add links and what not so I have to thank him. But I think its a little unfair to provide the artist rendering of me without providing the artist rendering of himself. (BTW He is the artist) Earn that paycheck Bill. That caricature above is what he thought would be him. Flattering huh? Nice to see Bill has the self confidence to think he is that dork. The guy actually looks like the guy Mark from the movie RENT. I make a point to read the regular news first just because I like to think I should know somewhat of what is going on in the world around me but when I flip the paper over to the sports section is when the fun begins.
Today I flip over the paper and Jeff Francoeur of the atlanta braves is on the cover with the Headline "BRAVE TALK." The subline reads "Pedro's back, but Franceoeur says: We can catch Mets." Yes ladies and gentlemen it is that time of year when The M-E-T-S will have their version of the NY-Boston rivalry.
I have repeated over and over, since the braves were in the cellar, to anyone who will listen that I will not be able to rest easy until the Braves are numerically eliminated. Now going into Atlanta with a 12 game lead, the M-E-T-S need to show these guys they mean business. Especially after Andruw Jones comments that the braves are still the team to beat and that they are acting like they are the team in first place. A few months ago when it was Philly who was in second about 7 games back the M-E-T-S knew that they needed to go in there and put them away. I think they need to have that same attitude in putting atlanta in their place. If they win this series or sweep(wishful thinking) they could seriously deplete the importance of the last series in atlanta providing they win the series against atlanta at home.
With all this said the M-E-T-S have not had a meaningful series in about a month and I cannot be more excited for the prospect of some meaningful games that could decide the outcome of this season. So with all this said, WELCOME BACK MR. MARTINEZ and LETS GO METS
